What if blockchain was to be incorporated onto Diablo 3?
Through our previous posts, we went over the subjects of why games need blockchain technology, and what we can expect if games were to incorporate blockchain. This time around, we will be taking a look at a few games that we want to see utilize blockchain. The annually released sports games
The FIFA Series, which is one of EA’s most prominent sports games, has a new game release each year. However, the system is structured so that you cannot use the game money or player cards that you invested money and effort into acquiring in FIFA18 in the new FIFA19. Thus, you have to start from the beginning all over again, causing a lot of gamers to complain that the game only has a lifespan of 1 year. If sports game that have annual releases like the FIFA series were to incorporate blockchain technology, it can be expected that users could use the team that they spent time and money in building in the following year’s release with almost the same value. Because game companies can gain customer loyalty from the users on their series, and users would not have to deal with the problem of starting from the beginning each year, a win-win situation could be possible by just incorporating blockchain technology!
Blockchain’s most suitable games, RPG
A lot of people were disappointed that Diablo 4 was not announced at BlizzCon 2018, but we cannot leave out the Diablo Series when talking about RPG. In the 2012 release of Diablo 3, we were able to see major enhancements from Diablo 2, like the innovative auction house that allowed cash trading in European countries. However, there were several problems, such as hacking, copying, and inflation, that the game suffered from, eventually leading to the abolishment of the auction house in 2014. If the Diablo Series were to incorporate blockchain technology, they would not have to face troubles like the issue they had with the auction house. If the in-game items were to be blockified and registered, transparent transaction would be possible. Furthermore, because hacking is practically impossible with blockchain, a more convenient RPG game could be born that also allows users to gain profits.
Action & casual mobile games
The real-time action mobile game called Brawl Stars developed by Supercell, one of the biggest mobile game companies, is a game that has been gaining massive love from all over the world. In the character collecting and building game, users can enhance their characters with the game money. If the coins used in the game were to use blockchain, not only would the progression of the game be more effortless, but it’d be possible to share the tokens with the other games developed by Supercell, and it’d be possible to freely enjoy the various games made by a single company. As you can see, the opportunity for blockchain to be used in not only PC games but also mobile games is limitless. We hope to see more games utilize blockchain in 2019!
